However, keep in mind that if you want to create beautiful raised flowerbeds, you need to find top-quality soil in Calgary. If you want to create a natural look for the flowerbed structure, we recommend using ledgestone; a natural stone cut into rectangles and squares, perfect for stacking.

Creating A Raised Flowerbed

Step 1: Planning

Before you start gathering supplies for your raised flowerbed, you need to plan and map out the shape. You can use a rope or a garden hose and create an outline for your flowerbed. You should always keep in mind that raised flowerbeds over 3 feet tall have a higher risk of falling over.

Once you decide the shape and measurements for your raised flowerbed, you can ask your supplier how much stone, landscape fabric, gravel, sand, and topsoil you will require and purchase it. You can also get soil and landscape supplies in Calgary delivered to your home.

Step 2: Select The Stone

If you want the structure to last, you have to pay attention to the stone you choose for the walls of your raised flowerbed. It is advised that you select stones that are all similar in width. Flat and thin stones are also better and can help you create a stable raised flowerbed. We recommend using ledgestone; it is ideally suited for this type of project.

Step 3: Dig The Trench

When you have marked the outline of your flowerbed during the planning stage, you can start digging a trench that is 12 inches deep and 10 inches wide. Ensure that the bottom of your trench is even and create steps in regions that are in slope. Once your trench has been dug, you need to add the gravel around 4 inches deep and level it.

Step 4: Lay Landscape Fabric And Stack The Stones

After digging the trench, you need to spread the landscape fabric all over the trench. You can use the stones and place them on the fabric to weigh them down for some time. Once the fabric has been spread, you can start stacking the layers of stones.

For the last course of the stones, you need to ensure that the top is flat. You can use a rubber mallet to keep the stones balanced and in place.

Step 5: Apply Mortar

You can apply mortar to the stones to ensure they do not move. The mortar should be applied between the landscape fabric and the stones. To apply the mortar, you need to mix it with water in a wheelbarrow and transfer the mixture to a container.

Once the mortar is dry, you can add soil and mulch and start planting flowers in your raised flowerbed. Happy gardening!
